How to read a card

On'yomi are Sino-Japanese readings, shown in katakana.

Kun'yomi are native Japanese readings, shown in hiragana. Word endings are included where shown.

Romaji shows pronunciation in Latin letters. It is not an English translation.

A dot separates a kanji reading from its word ending: ひと.つ / hito.tsu. A hyphen marks a prefix or suffix reading. “(stop)” marks a final small っ.

A reading depends on the word. Some kanji have only one reading type. Dictionary readings can include uncommon readings outside the official Jōyō reading table.
